Bibenda tasters this year sampled extra virgin oils from 415 estates and, among them, we are awarded Bibenda’s 5 Gocce dell’Eccellenza (5 Drops of Excellence), Top Award for extra virgin olive oils that scored from 91 to 100/100, for the Organic Extra Virgin Olive oil Plenum 2023.
The Bibenda Guide exceeds 400,000 copies (2022 and 2023 figures) and is the most complete edition to appreciate the best of our Country: we are proud to be part of it!
This year the efforts in the production phase were really hard, due to a low production and a harvest punctuated by rainy days…
We started the olive harvest on the 16th of October 2023, a rather early date, so early that the mill opened especially for us!
In order to aim for the highest quality, it is crucial that we are able to harvest our olives at the optimal time of ripeness and bring them to the mill on the same day, fresh and healthy.
Especially in vintages like 2023, there was no time to waste as ripening was rapid and rainfall often forced harvesting operations to be postponed: it was essential to ‘seize the moment’ and take quick decisions.
Only with this care (and a lot of stubbornness!) we can obtain a product with the characteristic flavour of green olives, with a typical spiciness and bitterness that go well with Tuscan dishes.
